I would like to thank you for inviting me to participate in the 2003 Smart Growth Summit. I applaud Vision Long Island's mission to promote livability and economically sustainable and environmentally responsible growth on Long Island. The 2003 Smart Growth Summit is of great importance to ensure that we improve transportation safety and efficiency on Long Island. I am sure that your summit will provide a positive foundation for implementing solutions that help improve local road conditions, increase efficiency in transportation, and reduce suburban sprawl while improving the quality of life for Long Island residents. Please know that as a member of the House and Transportation Infrastructure Committee, I will continue working to ensure that the federal government addresses the transportation needs of Long Island. I look forward to the results of the Smart Growth Summit and to continuing working with you to ensure that multiple modes of transportation, such as walking, biking, rail and bus service, are available to all.
